Home Icon Harrison, Ruby

Ruby Harrison's personal and professional experiences have cultivated a deep sense of empathy and a strong commitment to breaking barriers for vulnerable populations, striving for an equitable future where everyone can thrive. She excels at forming professional partnerships to achieve successful outcomes and is unafraid to voice her opinions, challenge assumptions, and offer alternative perspectives.

As part of this commission, Ruby is dedicated to raising awareness and collaborating to reduce and address disparities within our community. Her drive stems from her upbringing in the SF Bay Area, where she was born and raised by parents with limited English proficiency, income, and education. This presented unique challenges that forged her perspective and resilience. From navigating complex systems like education and healthcare to serving as a cultural liaison for her family, she learned early on the importance of adaptability and advocacy.

Professionally, Ruby is deeply passionate about enabling patients to access the care they need, regardless of their societal circumstances. She has dedicated over two decades to patient health research, with experience in both academia and the pharmaceutical industry. Her academic career at UCSF focused on genetic clinical research, studying the causes of multiple autoimmune diseases to find better treatments and cures. For the past decade, at Genentech, she worked on large, cross-functional, global clinical trials, as well as advancing health equity and inclusive research.
